Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh, alongside prominent figures from India’s fashion world, unveiled Sarees: Draping Emotions, a beautifully crafted coffee-table book by Pearl Academy in collaboration with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), on October 13 at The Grand, New Delhi. The event brought together leading names, including Dr. Sharad Mehra, Chairman of Pearl Academy; Sunil Sethi, Chairman of FDCI; Aditi Srivastava, President of Pearl Academy; and a celebrated lineup of designers such as Anju Modi, Tanira Sethi, Nitin Bal Chauhan, and many more.
Pearl Academy, with its 31-year legacy of innovation in creative education, continues to bridge the gap between tradition and modernity, especially in art, design, and culture. The unveiling of Sarees: Draping Emotions was not just an event but a heartfelt celebration of one of India’s most iconic garments—the saree. Speaking on the occasion, Giriraj Singh highlighted the saree’s deep cultural significance: “The saree is much more than just fabric. It is a reflection of our heritage, our artisans, and the powerful stories woven into its threads. This book is a tribute to the women and traditions that the saree represents, ensuring that future generations understand and appreciate its timeless essence.”
The book itself is a tribute to the saree’s journey from traditional attire to a symbol of empowerment, cultural fusion, and personal expression. With the integration of AI-generated imagery, it showcases Pearl Academy’s forward-thinking approach, blending time-honored traditions with cutting-edge technology.
Dr. Sharad Mehra emphasized the saree’s enduring legacy, saying, “For over 5,000 years, the saree has been worn as more than just clothing; it has become a symbol of identity, pride, and strength for women across the Indian subcontinent. This book takes readers on an inspiring journey through the beauty, heritage, and adaptability of the saree.”
Mr Sunil Sethi echoed this sentiment, celebrating the garment’s unique ability to balance tradition and modernity. “The saree is a symbol of India’s rich textile heritage, but it is also a canvas for innovation and self-expression. Sarees: Draping Emotions honors the artisans and designers who continue to breathe life into each weave, and it serves as a vital resource for generations to come.”
The collaboration between Pearl Academy and FDCI reflects a shared commitment to preserving India’s cultural heritage while promoting the saree as an ever-evolving symbol of artistic expression, resilience, and empowerment.
