Everest twins NungshiTashi win global award

In yet another global recognition, Uttarakhand’s adventure duo NungshiTashi have been conferred the ‘21st Century Inspiration Icon’ award by the organizing committee of the 21st century Icon awards based in London. These awards envision acting as a platform to connect the next generation of inspiring leaders and businesses with mission to support and promote the next generation of inspiring leaders as role models for future generations.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, these prestigious annual awards were unveiled online at Rosewood London on 17 December 2020.

Incidentally this is 2nd felicitation coming out from the United Kingdom. In 2016 NungshiTashi were listed among 10 most inspiring young women under 25 by Girls Guiding, a leading girls’ empowerment charity in Scotland.

In their award acceptance speech, the twins said ‘as a particularly challenging year 2020 draws to an end, let’s remember and pray for those who have suffered the most. Let us also celebrate the success of the next generation, for it is in such a spirit of ‘approval’ that they will be inspired to strive for excellence and work for a better world”.

“We embarked on our climbing journey to champion the cause of gender equity and to fight against female feticide in India. This award adds to a sense of fulfilment and pride on behalf of all girls who are denied equal opportunity to realize their full human potential”.

They dedicated this award to the Indian girl child, who the twins believe, has nerves of steel and who so stoically continues to climb her daily mountains of exclusion and denial of basic human rights.
