Frequently asked questions answered by the Beauty Icon
Please tell me the remedy for blackheads.
Blackheads occur on oily skin or oily areas of the skin. After washing the face in the morning, wipe the blackhead prone areas with an astringent lotion, using cotton wool. Then, make a paste of baking soda and water. Apply the paste on the areas with blackheads daily and wash it off after 5 minutes. Use a facial scrub three times a week on the blackhead prone areas. You can either buy a facial scrub or you can mix rice powder with curd and a pinch of turmeric. Apply on the areas with blackheads and rub gently on the skin using small circular movements. Leave on for 5 minutes and then wash off with water.
I want to remove facial hair by laser treatment. Will it harm my skin?
Hair removal by laser is said to be permanent, but re-growth has been known to occur in some cases. You will have to find a very good laser clinic. It is an expensive treatment and several sessions will be needed, depending on the extent of growth. The temporary known side effects are redness, swelling and itching. It is very important to find a reputed laser clinic so that the side effects are limited.
Please tell me how to apply cream around my eyes and how to remove eye make-up.
You should massage an under-eye cream around your eyes, using only the ring finger and a very light touch. Massage in one direction only, from the inner corner of the eyes towards the outer corners. Wipe off gently with moist cotton wool. Cream should not be left on around the eyes during the night. To remove make-up, apply cleansing gel or cream around eyes and then wipe gently with moist cotton wool, the same way, from inner towards outer corners.
I have oily skin. What kind of make-up should I use?
Wash the face and then apply an astringent lotion. This reduces oiliness. Wait for a few minutes and then apply water-based liquid foundation. Blend with a damp sponge. Or, avoid foundation and apply only compact powder. Select a shade which has a beige tone, rather than pink. Pan sticks are also available. They suit oily skins more. They are hard and water has to be added before use. Apply lightly. You can apply light blush on, to give a gentle flush to the face.
