International Women’s Day 2023

Opinion of Women Entrepreneurs on Women Empowerment

Ananya Kapur, Founder Of Type Beauty

In my opinion, empowerment is ensuring that individuals feel empowered in their respective roles. As women, we often experience guilt regardless of the path we choose. We constantly feel as though we are not doing enough or not good enough. The concept of women’s empowerment is to enable all women, regardless of their role, to feel fulfilled in their work and daily lives. This includes women who hold positions such as CEO, stay-at-home mom, scientist, or any other profession. To me, the essence of women’s empowerment lies in empowering other women. In my capacity, I am fortunate enough to hire and train women, enabling them to be the best versions of themselves. I view this as my life’s purpose and path forward because I believe that being an empowered woman entails empowering others. By supporting one another and fostering an environment where all women can thrive, we can move beyond the notion that women are each other’s worst enemies.

Anshita Mehrotra, Founder of Fix My Curls

To me, women empowerment is about ensuring that every woman around me has an equal opportunity to pursue her dreams and ambitions, regardless of gender. It is about creating a culture where women feel safe, respected, and heard in all spheres of life. In the workplace, it means taking affirmative action to eliminate gender bias and ensuring that women receive the same pay, opportunities, and promotions as their male counterparts. It is also about fostering a supportive environment where women feel comfortable expressing their opinions and ideas without fear of backlash or discrimination. Ultimately, empowerment is about creating a world where women are free to be themselves, and their potential is limited only by their own abilities and aspirations. I am a firm believer of an open door policy and encourage women to feel empowered and secure in my work space. Giving someone the freedom to develop and be their best selves, free from the constraints of patriarchy, without any limitations on what a woman is capable of accomplishing—because she can do anything—is what empowerment is all about.

Ishita Singhal, Founder of Sass Communications

Increasing women’s economic standing, their control over resources, and their access to financial opportunities becomes a vital aspect when accounting for women’s empowerment in the progressive times of today, where the necessity of personal independence develops significantly. In reality, taking into account that women’s political empowerment can result in more gender equality and better governance rather than just focusing on economic factors. Also, it can aid in addressing gender-specific concerns, which are urgently needed. Their ability to access a just and fair legal system might give them the greatest sense of security. Moreover, I also firmly advocate that the absolute radical shift in the balance of power can only be brought about by expanding the scope of cultural barriers that stifle the social growth of women.

Paridhi Goel , Co- founder Love Earth

The path to gender equality remains long and ever-shifting but today’s influential female voices give us an aspiration that we’re headed in the right direction. A world with gender equality isn’t just an improved world for women, but for everyone.

For me, Women empowerment is significantly represented through more women in business. While there are various government policies to encourage women entrepreneurs, the change must begin at the grassroots level and through educational institutions. This will ensure that more women are educated on the different aspects of starting their own ventures. There are a lot more women in the tech industry and IITs/IIMs today than ever.

With increased awareness of women’s roles and economic standing in society, their hidden entrepreneurial potential would rise. Women may now be seen working in every industry, from pickles and fashion to telecommunications, since the glass barriers are now shattered. It’s essential that we take time to recognize the achievements that women have made in business and in other facets of their lives.

Megha Kalra, Co-founder Ardor

Indian culture gives women the utmost respect. Many of our gods are female and have been worshiped as immortal and supreme beings by many faithful people. However, speaking about women empowerment in 2023 is about equal rights in society, workspace, homes, and everywhere. A sense of Women’s empowerment helps boost women’s status through literacy, education, training, and awareness. We, women, love to be financially independent and love to stand firm in front of everyone. Discrimination has no place in the 21st century, and every girl has the right to feel safe, work according to her choice, and live confidently. Digital technology has enabled the freedom to articulate and share one’s experiences, concerns, and knowledge, broadening the scope of activities and helping women address issues previously beyond their capacity.

Dr Shruti Malik co-founder ‘Anardana’

Women empowerment refers to the process of providing women with the resources, tools, opportunities, and confidence to control their lives and make their own choices, without fear of discrimination or oppression. This includes access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities, political participation, and freedom from gender-based violence. Empowering women benefits not only individuals but also their families, communities, and society as a whole. So basically creating an environment in which women can make decisions and take actions that allow them to reach their full potential, both personally and professionally said.

Arthi Raghuram, Founder of Deyga Organics

In my purview, women empowerment is about creating a world where women are free to be their authentic selves, where their voices are heard and their contributions are valued. It’s about challenging traditional gender roles and stereotypes and providing women with the means they need to succeed in all aspects of life. Empowerment is also about advocating for women’s rights, including reproductive rights and equal pay. True empowerment essentially comes down to breaking down the stereotypes and gender roles that hold women back. It means creating an environment where women can explore their interests and talents, pursue their careers, and lead fulfilling lives.

Tanisha Lakhani, Founder of Protouch

As a woman entrepreneur, I have often been asked about my views on women empowerment. And to be honest, this is a topic that is very close to my heart. Women empowerment to me is not just about providing equal rights and opportunities to women, but it is also involves giving women the freedom to express themselves and make their own choices without fear of judgment or reprisal. This means challenging traditional gender roles and stereotypes and recognizing the value of women in society. Such empowerment culturally promotes gender equality in all aspects of life, including education, employment, and leadership positions. In this way, I am sure we will have built a generation of women who have high self-esteem, are self-confident, and know their worth! This means encouraging women to speak up, take risks, and pursue their dreams. It also involves creating a safe and supportive environment where women can share their experiences, seek help, and find support.

Divya Malpani, Founder of Skinvest

Most prominently, as a woman in the business world, I deem financial empowerment to be a critical component of women empowerment. Financial empowerment requires women to be thoroughly acquainted with the ways to manage their finances, make informed decisions about investments, and build wealth. This includes access to financial education, credit, and savings options. For budding women entrepreneurs, financial empowerment is particularly essential. Starting and running a business requires capital, and women often face barriers in accessing the funding they need to grow their ventures. Financial empowerment means providing women entrepreneurs with access to funding and investment opportunities, as well as training and support to help them manage their finances effectively. Moreover, a strong business spirit is also vital for women empowerment. Encouraging women to take risks, think outside the box, and pursue their entrepreneurial dreams is an essential part of creating a culture that values and supports women in business. By fostering a business spirit among women, we can help break down gender stereotypes and create a more inclusive and diverse business landscape.

Divisha Chhabra ( Co founder -Bevzilla)

“The modern-day understanding of women empowerment from my perspective puts more weight on creating an environment where women are encouraged to become successful business leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs. One important aspect of women empowerment is promoting a strong business mindset among women. It means encouraging women to take risks, think innovatively, and pursue their entrepreneurial goals. This entrepreneurial spirit among women equips them to break stereotypes and achieve independence. With their emergence in the entrepreneurial sphere, women are breaking through these barriers and forging their paths to success. This allows women to take control of their careers and become independent. They are no longer constrained by traditional workplace hierarchies and can pursue their passion and goals on their terms. This independence can be a game-changer for women who have felt trapped or undervalued in traditional work settings.

By starting their businesses, women can demonstrate that they are just as capable as men of achieving success and creating innovative solutions. They can also challenge traditional notions of what it means to be a woman in business, breaking through the glass ceiling and paving the way for future generations.”
