HONORS ICONIC DESIGNERS SABYASACHI MUKHERJEE AND RITU KUMAR
The fashion world gathered at the Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan to honor the outstanding achievements of two iconic designers at the prestigious India Fashion Awards organized by FDCI. The ceremony was followed by a spectacular fashion show titled “Threads of Bharat,” showcasing the works of India’s renowned couturiers. Attended by over 800 distinguished guests, the event saw Union Minister Piyush Goyal present the ‘Designer of the Decade’ award to Sabyasachi Mukherjee and the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ to veteran designer Ritu Kumar.
On the inaugural day of Bharat Tex 2024, India’s largest global textile event under the Ministry of Textiles, the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) presented a mesmerizing display of fashion followed by the award ceremony.
Sabyasachi, the recipient of the Designer of the Decade award, is the visionary behind India’s premier luxury house established in Kolkata in 1999. Celebrating 25 years of redefining luxury, Sabyasachi is renowned for preserving Indian craftsmanship, fostering innovation, and collaborating with major international brands. His ambition to create India’s first global luxury super brand across various categories makes him a deserving recipient of this accolade.
Ritu Kumar, the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award and a Padma Shree awardee, is credited with blending ancient Indian craftsmanship with contemporary styles. She pioneered the boutique culture in India and leads a multi-brand fashion empire. Her diverse creations, spanning fashion, couture, ready-to-wear, home, and fusion wear, have left an indelible mark on the Indian fashion scene.
FDCI Chairman, Sunil Sethi described the event as “iconic” in the journey of Indian craftsmanship appropriately recognized as part of the India Fashion Awards.
