The day’s proceedings began with the much-anticipated Roundtable on the Value of Crafts & Sustainability, where panelists and participants delved into the increasing importance of sustainability in the crafts sector. The discussions explored how crafts contribute to sustainable economic growth and cultural preservation while uncovering the intangible value they bring to communities and societies.
The highlight of the day was the Inaugural Ceremony, which officially opened the World Crafts Forum 2024. The event commemorated six decades of WCC’s leadership in advancing and popularizing the global crafts movement. Chief Guest Shri Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for Textiles & External Affairs, delivered an eloquent address, emphasizing the pivotal role of crafts in India’s culture and economy:
“Crafts are not merely products; they are living stories of human ingenuity, tradition, and identity. As we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the World Crafts Council, let us honor the artisans who unite the past and the future with their unmatched skill and passion. Rohit Kansal, IAS, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Textiles, concluded:

Following the inauguration, the Panel Discussion on Craft Fund: Establishing Craft Incubation and Entrepreneurship addressed the urgent need for start-up support within the craft sector. Panelists emphasized the role of innovation and entrepreneurship in ensuring that traditional crafts not only endure but also thrive in the modern economy.
The day concluded with a Cultural Evening, featuring traditional performances and the grand opening of the EPCH Gallery of Best Indian Crafts, which showcased exceptional artistry from across the country.
As part of the forum’s activities, special screenings of Aadyam Handwoven Films provided attendees with profound insights into the craftsmanship, techniques, and stories behind India’s celebrated weaving traditions, including Banaras, Bhadohi, and Pochampally.
