Frequently asked questions answered by the Beauty Icon

How can I get shiny and silky hair?

To add shine, give the hair a tea-water and lemon rinse after shampoo. Boil used tea leaves again in enough water. After boiling, there should be about 5 to 6 cups of tea-water. Cool and strain it. Then add the juice of a lemon and use it as a last rinse after shampoo. Weekly henna treatments will also help. 4 teaspoons each of lemon juice and coffee, 2 raw eggs and enough “tea water” should be added to the henna powder, mixing it into a thick paste. Apply the henna on the hair and wash off after an hour. Add more tea water if the egg is not used. Fresh fruits, raw salads, sprouts and yogurt should be included in the daily diet, along with 6 to 8 glasses of water daily.

I have pigmentation on my chin. The rest of the face is clear. What should I do to get rid of this?

Apply sunscreen with high SPF before going out in the sun. Mix rice powder with curd, add a pinch of turmeric and use it as a facial scrub once or twice a week. Apply only on the dark area and rub gently on the skin with tiny circular movements. Leave on for a few minutes and then wash off with water. Mix honey and lemon juice in equal quantities and apply daily only on the chin. Wash off after 15 minutes with plain water. Twice a week, apply face mask by mixing 3 teaspoons of oats with one teaspoon each of honey, curd and lemon juice, or egg white. Apply on the entire face, avoiding the lips and area around eyes. Wash it off after half an hour.

*  I have coarse hair and a long broad face. Kindly suggest which hairstyle will suit me.

Short hair suits a long face. The hair should not be allowed to fall straight down. Have it cut in steps, so that it adds width to the sides of the face. If the ends curl forward slightly towards the jaw line, it will help a broad face. You can also have a light fringe. It may be straight or swept to one side. A soft fringe on the forehead suits a long face. For coarse hair, apply a creamy conditioner after shampoo. Leave on for 2 minutes and then rinse off with plain water.
