INTRO Frequently asked questions answered by the Beauty Icon
Q1. I have dark spots left by pimples. What to do?
If there are no pimples now, mix rice powder with curd and pinch of turmeric; apply on the face twice a week. Rub gently on the skin with tiny circular movements, especially on the dark spots. Leave on for a few minutes and then wash off with water. Mix honey and lemon juice in equal quantities and apply daily on the face. Wash off after 15 minutes with plain water.
Q2. Due to allergy to sunlight, my complexion has become black and sensitive.
If there is a sun allergy, you should apply sunscreen with a high SPF of 40 and above before going out in the sun. If you stay in the sun for long, you may need to reapply sunscreen. So, you should carry it with you. Take two teaspoons curd, add a pinch of haldi and apply daily on the face. If curd does not suit you, you can apply cold milk daily the same way. Wash off after 15 minutes.
Q3. My hair is thin and straight. It becomes oily two days after wash. Also tell me how to remove dandruff.
Wash your hair four times a week, using less shampoo and rinsing well with water. Half an hour before shampoo, apply two tablespoons of vinegar and massage it lightly into the scalp. Once a week, heat olive oil and apply on the scalp at night. Leave it overnight. Next morning, apply the juice of a lemon 20 minutes before shampoo. Weekly henna treatments will help. Include fresh fruits, raw salads, sprouts and yogurt in your daily diet. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily.
Q4. My mother’s eyes have become puffy. What is the home remedy for it?
Your mother should first consult a doctor to ensure that her kidneys and sinuses are functioning well, and also ask for dietary advice. Make-up or cream should not be left on around eyes at night, during sleep. It can lead to puffiness. She can try some simple home remedies, like applying a compress of iced water or cold milk directly over closed lids and leave on for 15 to 20 minutes. Or she can soak cotton wool pads in chilled rose water and let it rest on the under-eyes for 10 to 15 minutes. Grated potatoes or potato juice, applied around the eyes also helps to reduce puffiness.
