Frequently asked questions answered by the Beauty Icon
My son has body odor due to sweat. What is the remedy?
Applying roll on deodorants against the skin can sometimes lead to skin discolouration. He can splash on eau de cologne. Colognes constitute mainly water, with only 2 to 5 % perfume. They are lighter. Bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) helps to prevent body odour. Make a paste of baking soda and water and apply under the arms. Add lemon juice to this paste. Leave on for ten minutes and wash off with water. Or, mix a little baking soda with talcum powder and apply. Add one teaspoon of alum (phitkari) to his bath water. Crush some mint (pudina) leaves and add them too. Add 2 drops of Tea Tree Oil to two tablespoons of water or rose water. Apply under the arms with cotton wool.
My hair is not growing. What should I do?
The average rate of hair growth on the head is half an inch per month. Diet is very important for healthy hair growth. Have a small bowl of sprouts daily and include fresh fruits, salads, leafy green vegetables, soyabean, curd, in your diet. Ask your doctor to prescribe vitamin and mineral supplements. Apply non-oily herbal hair tonic daily.
I have doubts about applying henna to hair. Should we apply oil first and then henna? Also after applying henna, should we wash with shampoo or plain water?
You do not have to apply oil before applying henna. If your hair is dry, you can add 2 teaspoons of oil to the henna paste. After applying henna, wash your hair with plain water. The effect will be better, especially if you apply henna for colour. Also, henna is a powerful natural cleanser. So is lemon juice, which is added to the henna.
How to remove mascara? Also, suggest a way to grow eye lashes?
Use very little cleansing cream or oil (olive oil or almond oil) for removal of eye make up. Apply on the lashes and wipe off gently with moist cotton wool. Keep your eyes closed, so that the cream or oil does not get into the eyes. Castor oil is said to encourage growth of eye lashes. Apply very little castor oil on the lashes daily, using cotton bud. Apply during the day. Do not apply at night and go to sleep, as it can lead to puffy eyes.
