Frequently asked questions answered by the Beauty Icon
Q1. How can I tone my skin and what should I use?
Tone the skin after cleansing. Rose water is one of the best known natural skin toners. Using cotton wool pads, wipe the skin with rose water. Soak pads again and pat the skin briskly with it. Gentle stroking movements can also be followed with the cotton wool pads, starting on the cheeks, with an outward and slightly upward movement.
Q2. I would like my skin to be fairer. Can I have it bleached or should I use a fairness cream? I have dry skin.
I do not advocate chemical bleaching, because it can destroy the natural beauty of the skin. You can honey with curd in equal quantities, add a pinch of turmeric (haldi) and apply it on the skin daily. Wash it off after 15 minutes. Twice a week mix cucumber and ripe papaya pulp with one teaspoon curd, one teaspoon honey, 4 teaspoons oats and one teaspoon lemon juice. Apply on your face and wash off after 20 to 30 minutes.
Q3. My hair is so oily. Can I wash my hair daily? I hope it will not harm the hair.
Yes, you can wash your hair every day, if you wish, but use a mild shampoo. Also, use very little shampoo – one teaspoon for long hair and half teaspoon for short hair. Dilute with a little water and then apply. Wash very well with water after shampoo. One application of shampoo should be enough for each hair wash. After washing your hair, add the juice of a lemon to half a mug of water and use it as a last rinse. This helps to reduce oiliness.
Q4. I have a three months old baby and she has some kind of scales on the scalp. They stick to the scalp and are very difficult to remove. What should I do?
This is a condition, which is quite common in babies. It is called a “cradle cap” and you should not try to remove the scales forcibly. Apply warm olive oil or baby oil on the collections of scales, using cotton wool. Leave it on, so that the oil will soften the scales. Once they are soft, you can try to remove them with moist cotton, rubbing very gently. Then wash the scalp with baby shampoo. If the condition does not improve, consult your child specialist.
