Frequently asked questions answered by the Beauty Icon

·        I have falling hair. I changed my shampoo, but my hair is still falling. Please help.

What you need is herbal hair tonic, to control hair loss. Some of the reasons for hair loss are dandruff, oily scalp, stress, thyroid imbalance, nutritional deficiencies, repeated dyeing, straightening, etc. Avoid massage. Apply oil once a week the night before shampoo. Avoid head massage. If there is hair loss, the roots are already weak and massage may aggravate the problem. Use mild herbal shampoo and apply less. If the scalp or hair is oily, avoid creamy conditioners. Use a hair rinse instead. Use a wide toothed comb. Diet is a very important. Have a small bowl of sprouts daily and include fresh fruits, salads, leafy green vegetables, curd, in your diet. Ask your doctor to prescribe vitamin and mineral supplements.

·        I have combination skin.  I use rose water as a toner and sunscreen of SPF 50 along with oil free cream moisturizer. I want blemish less clear healthy complexion. I have a few brown spots on my cheeks. Please give your suggestions.

Continue to apply sun block cream of 25 or 40 before going out in the sun. Use a facial scrub twice a week, applying it on the face and rubbing gently with small circular movements, especially on the areas with dark spots. Mix together honey and lemon juice in equal quantities and apply on the face daily, at any time. Wash it off after 15 minutes. If you wish to use a mask with home ingredients, you can mix 3 teaspoons of oats with egg white and one teaspoon each of honey and curd. Apply on the entire face, once or twice a week, avoiding the lips and area around eyes. Wash it off after half an hour.

·        I am a male of 25 years. Due to frequent shaving my skin has become rough. Please give some tips.

The skin can become rough due to shaving if there is dryness, or because shaving does not remove hair by the roots. Before shaving, ensure that the beard is thoroughly wet. Shower or apply lukewarm water before shaving. Use a shaving cream containing moisturizers and have a creamy lather. If it contains natural ingredients like aloe vera, it would help. Leave the cream on for a minute and then start shaving, so that the beard is soft. Change your razor blades more often. Shaving against the direction of hair growth helps to get a close shave. Use an after-shave cream instead of lotion.
