Frequently asked questions answered by the Beauty Icon
Q1. I want a solution for excessive sweating and body odour.
Body odour develops about 6 hours after we sweat. Have two baths daily and change all your clothes. Wear freshly washed clothes and underclothes after bathing. Wear only cotton clothes. Bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) is said to prevent body odour. Make a paste of baking soda and water and apply on areas like under the arms. Leave on for ten minutes and wash off with water. Or, mix a little baking soda with your talcum powder and apply, specially under the arms, or on the feet. Ayurveda recommends certain dietary solutions for excessive sweating. Sip ginger tea before and after your meals. Chop fresh ginger root finely and mix with a pinch of salt. Chew a little of this before your meal. Sipping warm water with your meal may also help. Light diet and less spices are advised. Eat smaller meals.
Q2. Suggest a home remedy to maintain my long hair without cutting it short. It gets too oily.
Long hair needs more care. You may be having an oily scalp. Apply oil only once a week, the night before shampoo. Next morning add the juice of a lemon on the scalp and wash hair after 10 minutes.Wash your hair more often and rinse thoroughly with water. After shampoo, add the juice of a lemon to a mug of water and use it as a last rinse. Oily hair looks limp and also attracts more dirt and pollutants. Apply egg white half an hour before washing the hair. It reduces oiliness and also adds body to the hair. Weekly henna treatments will keep the scalp clean and also add body to the hair.
Q3. I have oily skin and I can’t apply foundation because my skin sweats and becomes oily.
After cleansing, wipe with an astringent, using cotton wool. The oily skin foundation does not seem to last. Use water-based foundation and add a few drops of water before applying for a lighter coverage. If your skin is clear and smooth, leave out foundation and use a powder compact. It helps to control oiliness and gives the skin a smooth texture. It is good for touching up too. If you wish to apply foundation, a cake foundation would be better for oily skins. They are also called pansticks. These are hard and water has to be added before use. Apply it with a damp sponge and blend well. After foundation, apply loose powder to set the foundation.
