Frequently asked questions answered by the Beauty Icon
Q1. I have small dark spots on my face, which have got aggravated by pregnancy. Please help.
This problem is quite common during pregnancy. Apply a sunscreen with high SPF before going out in the sun. Mix rice powder with yogurt and a pinch of turmeric. Use it as a facial scrub twice a week. Apply on the face and rub gently on the skin with tiny circular movements, especially on the areas with dark spots. Leave on for a few minutes and then wash off with water. Mix honey and lemon juice in equal quantities and apply daily on the entire face. Wash off after 15 minutes with plain water. Twice a week, apply a face pack. Mix 3 teaspoons of oats with one teaspoon each of honey, curd and lemon juice, or egg white. Apply on the entire face, avoiding the lips and area around eyes. Wash it off after half an hour.
Q2. I am suffering from severe hair fall. I have tried oiling my hair with coconut and mustard oils and different shampoos, but nothing works. Please tell me a remedy to stop hair fall.
Hair loss can be caused by dandruff, oily scalp, stress, thyroid imbalance, nutritional deficiencies, repeated dyeing, colouring, straightening etc. The water you are using may be hard, which tends to disrupt the normal acid-alkaline balance of the scalp. Instead of applying mustard oil, you can apply sesame seed (til) oil or pure coconut oil. Heat and apply on the hair once a week. Avoid rubbing and vigorous massage. Using only the finger tips, actually move the scalp in small circular movements for 2 to 3 minutes. Whatever shampoo you use, apply less and rinse well with water. Diet is the most important aspect of hair care, because the hair is fed by nutrients in the blood stream. Have a small bowl of sprouts daily and include fresh fruits, salads, leafy green vegetables, soyabean, yogurt, fish, in your diet. Ask your doctor to prescribe Biotin and other vitamin and mineral supplements. Apply herbal hair tonic on the scalp daily, using cotton wool and leave on. It is non-oily.
Q3. Is there any home remedy for making the eyelashes thicker?
Apply very little castor oil daily on the eyelashes, using a cotton bud. It is said to thicken eyelashes. Apply it during the day. Do not apply oil on the eyelashes at night and go to sleep. It can lead to puffiness around the eyes.
