For ions we have been taught that marriages are decided in heaven. Time and again we are reminded that two people marry because it is their destiny which brings them together. All the credit is accorded to destiny and we believe it without trying to discover the truth behind.
Though it is not entirely wrong to say that marriages are decided in heaven. But, the statement is not applicable all the time.
If we are to believe something then we should have complete knowledge of it. Half knowledge can often prove to be inimical to our wellbeing. There is a need to discuss whether the union of two people is pre-decided or not. Despite what we have been told the truth might come as a surprise.
To discuss whether we have Free Will or not it would be easier if we break the question into two parts: 1) Are our marriage destined? And, 2) do we ever have free will? To answer the first question is not so easy to say a simple “yes” or “no”. There are people in this world who come with a predestined partner. But, not everyone has a person written in their destiny who they are going to marry. And, it might surprise many to know that people who have a predestined partner are fewer in number than those who don’t have a predestined partner.
So, to answer the first question, we can say that not all marriages are predestined.
Now, the answer to the second question is a “Yes”. We do have Free Will. As a matter of fact, everyone has Free Will. Because, people who don’t have a predestined partner are free to choose who they are going to marry.
To understand it better a little deeper dive into the concept of Destiny and Free Will in case of marriage would help.
You might have a predestined partner and before you meet that person you could be in a relationship or a number of relationships with anyone you want to. But, you should keep in mind that in this case you will get married only to the person who is destined for you. Here you used your Free Will to get into a relationship with a person of your liking. But, that relationship will only be temporary.
It is also possible to that you already know your predestined partner but are not in a relationship with them. This is because the time has yet not come for destiny to play its part. The moment the time of union will start to near you will find yourself getting closer to your predestined partner.
So, to believe that you have someone written for you in your destiny is giving yourself false hopes. Because, even if the union is predestined you need to put in some effort to make the union possible. Nothing will be presented to you on a platter. Though your marriage to a person might be predestined you do need to put in a certain amount of effort. You need to always remember that your destiny will only extend a helping hand.
