For a Healthy Relationship with Sister in law

By Jeevika Sharma

Tips

  1. To maintain good relations with your sister-in-law you might need to go out of your way or your comfort zone to interact with her and to understand her well. This will be a start towards building a strong bond with her. Understanding someone’s perspective and appreciating it is the key to developing a good bond with them.
  2. Travelling is another way to improve your relationship with your sister-in-law. Plan outings or small getaways with your sister-in-law. This would help make the bond stronger. Travelling together will make you both comfortable with each other, and travelling will narrow down the communication between them.
  3. Keep your expectations low. Expecting anything in return from your sister-in-law could be disheartening. Do not expect anything from her in return for your efforts or any help you have provided her. Give her some space and she would support you when the time comes.
  4. Be with them when they are mentally or emotionally disturbed. Talk to her, befriend her, discuss the issues and share your stories with her. This will not only lift her mood but also improve your relationship with her. This would also make her available for you in your bad times.
  5. Do not get upset if she taunts or scolds you. Talk to her and clear out the things. It could be not intentional and just be in her nature.
  6. Share and celebrate you and your sister-in-law’s achievements and success. Celebrate happiness together. This would improve your relationship with her.
  7. Build trust with your sister in law. Trust issues can ruin the relationship. Trust her and do not break her trust. This will keep the bond between you and your sister in law stronger for a longer period of time.
