I was born and raised in Punjab, but due to my upbringing in urban settings, I wasn’t very familiar with the renowned folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila. My exposure to rural culture was limited, which perhaps contributed to my lack of knowledge about him. However, my interest was piqued later on, and I decided to immerse myself in research about his life and legacy.
Imtiaz Ali’s film Chamkila serves as a touching tribute to Punjab’s legendary music icon, often likened to Elvis Presley for his profound impact on the music scene.
