The annual Jaipur Music Stage, an electrifying extension of the Jaipur Literature Festival, commenced on January 30th at Hotel Clarks Amer, Jaipur. Running for three exhilarating nights, this festival brings an unforgettable fusion of global and Indian musical traditions, providing the perfect conclusion to the literary festivities each day.
Honoring Musical and Poetic Legacies
The opening night paid homage to two of India’s most iconic poets: the 13th-14th century Sufi mystic Amir Khusrau and the 14th-15th century saint-poet Kabir Das. Their timeless poetry and spiritual depth were brought to life through mesmerizing musical performances.
The Amir Khusrau Project: A Fusion of Classical and Contemporary
Renowned musician Abhijit Pohankar, celebrated for his expertise in Indian classical fusion and keyboard artistry, led The Amir Khusrau Project. This performance beautifully reimagined Khusrau’s sublime verses, merging traditional elements with modern sounds.
Dastaan LIVE: Kabir’s Poetry in a New Light
Dastaan LIVE, an avant-garde ensemble known for blending poetry, folk, and rock, enthralled the audience with Kabira Khada Bazaar Mein. This set infused contemporary music with Kabir’s poetic wisdom, reinterpreting compositions from the theatrical play of the same name, originally directed by M.K. Raina.
