Make-up Essentials for the Eyes

By Shahnaz Husain

In these days of wearing masks, our eyes do most of the talking. So here are some make-up essentials for the eyes:

kajal make up

Eye shadow helps to re-contour the eyes and add emphasis. The powder ones are more popular, as they are easier to apply and blend with sponge-tipped applicators and brushes. Pearly or shiny shadows are used for highlighting or for creating a shimmering effect. Or, go for matte shadows, to create a more natural effect or to play down. Some eye shadows even provide glitter for gala occasions.

Eyeliner helps to define the eyes. Liquid eyeliner has been popular for decades, but now different kinds of eyeliners are available. Gel eyeliner is thicker and applied with an angled brush. While eye pencils are hard, kohl liners or “kaajal” are softer and easier to apply.

As for further information…

Use your eyeliner to create a small dotted line directly above your lashes on your upper eyelid. Make sure that the dots are as close to the base of your eyelid as possible; the point of eyeliner is to give the illusion of full eyelashes, which you can only do if the eyeliner is near the lashes. For the day, line your eyelids with matte brown or gray eye shadow for a softer effect. Outline the eyes with dark eyeliner. Apply it on the upper lid, close to the lashes and smudge with a cotton bud. Gently blend a line of kohl or eye pencil on the lower lid.

Eyelashes look thicker with skilfully applied mascara. A little practice is what you need. First of all, take good care of your lashes to protect their natural beauty. At night, use a cleansing gel and cotton wool to remove eye make-up gently. Roll-on mascara is easy to apply. Brush out lashes with a small brush, after applying mascara.

The buzz word now is eyelash extensions. They are attached to natural eyelashes, one by one, and make the lashes look thicker. Of course, you need to have them attached by a trained beautician. It’s up to you to decide how thick you want your lashes to be. The eyelash extensions may last for about 3 weeks to a month and then you will have to get them done again. Basically, the eyelash extensions are synthetic strands that are specially curved to look like natural eyelashes. It is said that mascara is not needed and if applied, it should be the water-based kind.
