Safeguard your skin against pollution this summer

Tips from Skinlab by Dr Jamuna Pai

Protecting your skin against pollution is crucial, especially during the summer months when air quality is often at its worst. Exposure to pollutants can lead to the generation of free radicals on the surface of the skin, which can cause sensitivity, oxidative stress, and a host of skin problems such as pigmentation, premature ageing, and a dull, sallow complexion.

To combat these harmful effects, Dr. Jamuna Pai, a leading cosmetic physician and founder of SkinLab clinics, recommends deep cleansing, sun protection, and the use of ingredients that create a barrier on the skin. Antioxidants are particularly effective in creating a pollution barrier for the skin. These substances protect cells from the damage caused by unstable molecules called free radicals, which are responsible for the damage to both our health and our skin. Additionally, antioxidants can significantly reduce the damage caused to the skin due to pollution.

Whether used orally or topically, they are one of the major ways to slow the impact of free-radical damage. They do the job of reducing environmental damage whether it is from the sun, pollution, or just the very air we breathe.

“Instead of stressing about any particular ingredient in any skin care product, I would recommend a regular skincare regime to fight against the ravages of pollution that your skin is facing. The first step after the morning wash is the application of protective ingredients. This means sunblock, antioxidants or AHA. Moisturize after the sunblock. During the course of the day, your skin collects excess sebum (oil), dead skin cells and pollution. Not to mention makeup. A cleanser will emulsify all of these and remove them from the surface of your skin, which should be a must”  says Dr. Jamuna Pai

Another tip is to have a night care routine. It is about rejuvenating your skin and reversing the damage done to it because of the pollution during the day. In other words, if DayCare is about defence, Night Care is about the attack. Your night cream can contain various collagen-stimulating proteins such as Soy Protein, advanced peptide complexes such as Matrixyl 3000 and strong antioxidants such as Vitamin A/Retinol.While the active ingredients work wonderfully on your skin as you sleep, it can leave your skin dry. To prevent this, use a moisturiser or a night cream before you retire for the day. This will help repair your skin as well as hydrate it.

To combat pollution, which is an inevitable part of city life, SkinLab clinics offer a range of treatments, including the OxyBlast facial therapy. This treatment uses the healing and restorative powers of oxygen to heal and nourish tired, stressed-out skin. With the help of an advanced handheld oxygen infuser, a potent and effective combination of 99.5% pure oxygen and vitamins is infused into the skin. The treatment is followed by SkinLab’s Signature Facials and clean up, and a luxury brightening mask leaving the skin feeling nourished and well-hydrated.

In today’s world, pollution has become a ubiquitous problem, and its impact on the skin cannot be ignored. Dr. Jamuna Pai’s expert advice on regular skincare and the use of advanced treatments like OxyBlast facial therapy can help individuals combat the effects of pollution and maintain healthy and radiant skin. It is essential to prioritize skincare to protect the skin and ensure its long-term health and well-being.
