Shankara launches the first ghee enriched Face Emulsion infused with Vitamin C from its Gheesutra Range

Ghee, a staple ingredient in every Indian home and a favourite of every grandma is quickly rising to the status of ‘healthy holy grail’. From digestion to skin conditions and beyond, ghee is stepping into the limelight as a one-stop remedy for everything that ails you.

Shankara, founded in 2001 has successfully wound together the ancient benefits of Ayurveda with modern skincare, creating a series of products that are both natural and highly effective. 

The brand’s latest offering, the Gheesutra range, strives to harness the manifold benefits of India’s own magic elixir – Ghee. Made from A2 cow’s milk using the age-old method of Shata Dhauta Ghrita or literally ‘100 times washed ghee’, the ghee is treated by washing it 100 times in special copper vessels. This process serves to break down the fat molecules in the ghee into smaller parts, making the ghee smoother, creamier and more hydrating, while simultaneously rendering it less oily, more absorbent into the skin. The addition of natural floral essence lends a pleasant fragrance to the products.

While the numerous benefits of Ghee in Ayurveda are well known throughout the world, with the launch of the Gheesutra range of products, Shankara will be the first mainstream beauty brand to utilise the magic elixir in commercially available skincare, in conjunction with modern ingredients, actives and advanced knowledge of skincare. The brand spent over 18 months in R&D to perfect the 100% natural formulation, making it suitable  for retail sale.

The first product from the range will be the Gheesutra Face Emulsion, which, in addition to the Shata Dhauta Ghrita, includes ingredients like Vitamin C, Hibiscus extract and Blue Pea Flower, each of which are known to be extremely powerful ingredients for skincare.

Packaged in an attractive glass jar, the Face Emulsion promises to promote production of collagen to fight aging, make the skin soft and supple,  rejuvenate the skin and render a glow from within while protecting the skin barrier from harmful radiation. The deep hydrating power of the emulsion will penetrate to the deepest layer of the skin and repair damage from the inside out. The Gheesutra face emulsion promises improved hydration, smoother and softer skin, a reduction in pigmentation and healing of rosacea.

According to the Head of Shankara India ,Asha Katpitia, ‘Ghee is a magical ingredient and its benefits in skincare are almost unimaginable. By blending the Ayurvedic benefits of ghee with western skincare science and newer ingredients like Vitamin C and Blue Pea, I believe Gheesutra is the ideal amalgamation of old and new, traditional and modern.

The Gheesutra range will include a Face Exfoliant, Lip Balm and Hand and Foot Cream, set to launch shortly after the Face Emulsion.
