Exhibition on “The Trail of the Mountain Man, Nicholas Roerich” – Art in postcards and prints throughout the century(1902-2002)curated by Dr. Vladimir Zaitsev who presented these rare artifacts from his family’s collection.

The  Exhibition on Nicholas Roerich ’s postcards and prints talk about the time when postcards were the most widespread object of art among the people of diverse social groups in Russian Society. It is often said that during the 19th and 20th centuries, postcards were often called the “open letters” as they propagated the realities and emotions of life and people. Within the Russian group of Artists emerged an artist who through their work tried to reflect the need of preserving cultures that were losing with the tides of time and presented the harmonies of his interest in Archaeology, and music through his paintings. His postcards became an influential piece of learning for art historians as he dedicated them to the socio-political situations that were surrounding him like the first World War, the landscapes, and the cultural heritage that were on its edge of losing.

His “Banner of Peace”, “Sophia The Wisdom”, “Madonna Oriflamma”, and other paintings in postcards symbolized the past, present, and future which further led him in being the nominee of the Noble Peace Prize.

The  exhibition gets divided into his four series of postcards over the century which includes: –

★     The Russian Architecture

★     World War 1

★     The Banner of Peace

★     The Himalayas

The artist left a deep engraving on the minds of the art critiques and art historians in creating a real-life story of the society, through his prints and paintings in postcards that were existing during his time.

Message of Nicholas Roerich to the world and humanity may be put in his own words:

“IN BEAUTY WE ARE UNITED,

THROUGH BEAUTY WE PRAY,

WITH BEAUTY WE CONQUER.”
