The Treatment of Acne Scars By Shahnaz Husain

The most common scars and marks on the face are due to acne. Indeed, acne not only leaves dark marks, but also tiny pits (holes) in the skin, making the skin texture coarse and rough. The pits are difficult to remove, since they form due to the destruction of skin tissue. The skin also gets a prematurely aged look. Sometimes, there is extra growth of scar tissue, developing into “keloids.” The result of this kind of scarring is that the skin becomes more uneven. Among the treatments for acne scars are laser therapy, microdermabrasion, chemical peeling, etc.
I devised Veg Peel treatments for scars and blemishes and also developed products for home care to minimize scars and make the skin texture smoother. The main idea behind the Veg Peel innovation was to make it safe and eliminate the risks of chemical peeling and other invasive methods. Also, many of the natural extracts actually benefit the skin. In vegetable peeling, plant extracts are used along with procedures to dermabrase the skin. This is done by rubbing the skin gently, with clockwise and then counterclockwise movements. The effect is both gentle and safe on the skin. In fact, the plant extracts actually help to restore beauty and health to the skin. The treatment is given only after the acne condition subsides.

Once the acne condition subsides, home remedies may also help. Twice a week, mix rice powder with curd and pinch of turmeric, and apply on the face. Rub gently on the skin with small circular movements, especially on the areas with acne marks and pits. Then leave it on for five minutes and wash off with plenty of plain water. Or, mix oats with egg white and apply on the face. When it dries, wet it with water and gently rub the skin the same way.

A face mask may also be used once or twice a week. Mix 3 teaspoons of oats with egg white and one teaspoon each of curd and honey. Apply on the face, avoiding the lips and area around eyes. Wash it off after half an hour. Dried and powdered lemon and orange peels or ground almonds can also be added to the pack. If there is any dryness after treatments, take two teaspoons of curd, add a pinch of turmeric and apply daily on the face, washing it off after 15 minutes. This softens the skin and helps both acne and marks.
